40 Days for Life

40 Days for Life is an international prayer vigil that began in Texas in 2004, when a group of people gathered in prayer to seek God’s guidance in ending abortion.

From that prayer came the conviction that great challenges can be confronted through prayer and fasting. Throughout Scripture, the number 40 often marks a time of preparation, testing and renewal. The Israelites spent 40 years in the desert before entering the Promised Land, and Jesus fasted for 40 days before beginning His public ministry.

Inspired by these biblical examples, 40 Days for Life grew into a worldwide campaign of prayer, fasting and peaceful witness for an end to abortion. Participants commit themselves to a respectful and peaceful presence wherever abortion occurs.

Kitchener-Waterloo 40 Days for Life

The Kitchener-Waterloo 40 Days for Life campaign has been active for many years. Our prayer vigil takes place near Freeport Hospital (WRHN–Chicopee), on the grass across from the King Street entrance to the Freeport Health Centre.

This year’s vigil runs from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., seven days a week, beginning Wednesday, September 23, and continuing for 40 days through Sunday, November 1.  Participants gather peacefully with signs bearing the simple message: “Pray to End Abortion.”

We are seeking prayer volunteers to support this year’s campaign. Visit the 40 Days for Life – Kitchener campaign website and select “Sign Up for Vigil Hours.” If possible, we ask volunteers to consider committing to one hour each week.
