ToastyToes - Bringing Warmth to Those in Need

ToastyToes Waterloo Region is a Kitchener-Waterloo-based charitable initiative dedicated to providing new, warm socks to individuals experiencing homelessness or facing financial hardship throughout Waterloo Region.

Founded in 2013 by Sharon Gilroy-Dreher, the initiative began as a tribute to her late mother, who loved giving socks as gifts. What started with a modest collection of 492 pairs of socks has grown into a successful community-wide charitable campaign.

By 2019, ToastyToes had distributed more than 130,000 pairs of socks to people in need. In 2020, the organization changed its approach from collecting socks to raising funds, allowing local shelters and social service agencies to purchase socks when they are most needed.

Working through the Waterloo Region Community Foundation, ToastyToes has raised more than $250,000 to support vulnerable residents. Beneficiaries include organizations such as The Working Centre, oneROOF Youth Services, YW Kitchener-Waterloo and several emergency shelters.

ToastyToes demonstrates how a simple act of kindness can grow into a meaningful community initiative, providing warmth, dignity and comfort to those who need it most.

When dropping off donations at Columbus House for our Christmas Food Appeal please consider donating $2 to ToastyToes.
