A Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Dedication

by Gary Megaffin

Don Cameron was an Honorary Life member of Council 1504 and was always available to volunteer and support our numerous charitable events. It was a bittersweet day as my friend of 60 years died on June 7th, 2018, the day my wife and I celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary. Because of Don’s K of C contributions and his legendary hockey broadcasting history, it was recommended that Council 1504 acknowledge this community favourite.

I produced a distinctive plaque that references the Knights of Columbus and highlights Don’s Council history and his civic achievements. At a recent meeting with Ms. Michelle Fortin, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club I explained my family’s personal association with the Camerons and I requested the Hockey Club accept his memento. She was very pleased to receive the commemoration and confirmed it will be permanently displayed in the new Don Cameron Media Room at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. It is hoped its public display will continue to enhance the reputation of the Kitchener Knights of Columbus. Should a future member attain a level of notoriety in the community, it should be incumbent upon us to honour him similarly.
