Men and women in Ontario‘s healthcare professions today are punished for refusing to cooperate in arranging, in violation of their conscience, the deaths of people they do not believe should die. They are denied the right of conscientious objection given even to conscripted soldiers in times of national crisis.
On May 18, 2017, a Private Members Bill proposing that “participation in medical assistance in dying shall be voluntary” was defeated in the Ontario legislature, opposed by three of Waterloo Region’s four MPP‘s.
On May 15, 2018, International Conscientious Objector’s Day, we will gather to demonstrate our deep concern, showing our elected representatives that this is a “ballot box” issue. We will gather at 4:45 pm at the office of Diaene Vernille, 607 King Street West, Kitchener and leave at 600 pm. For further information, contact stephen@democracydefence.ca or 519-743- 1263.
